I've been working professionally with dogs since 2011. I started my canine career as a professional dog walker in San Francisco and later earned my CTBC certification as a dog trainer and behavioral consultant through DTIASF (Dog Training Internship Academy of SF) as well as my CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed) certification. I currently offer both in-person and virtual dog training and behavioral consulting. My focus is on dogs struggling with reactivity by helping dog owners develop an effective management plan while we work to build confidence and teach new more appropriate skills.

In 2009, I became a certified dog trainer after graduating with honors from The Academy for Dog Trainers at the SF SPCA, taught by the world-renowned Jean Donaldson. Since then, I have been working and helping dogs and their humans for thousands and thousands and thousands of hours. Hello, my name is Dieuwke van der Velde, I am a positive reinforcement dog trainer in San Jose, CA and owner of Orion Dog Training. I got my credentials through the Animal Behavior College where I did my internship at the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. I teach online for Sirius Puppy and recently opened a small training center in West San Jose where we offer safe socialization classes for puppies, group classes in basic obedience , puppy agility and tricks.

What started as a call to action and doing right by the furry friends in my life, this business was birthed from the trust and encouragement of my friends who had dogs and needed support.
