I started Rad Rover because I want to help those who want to do better for their dogs who wouldn't otherwise have access to this kind of support. Compassion for people wanting to do better for their dogs is just as important as compassion for our animals. Using trauma informed care strategies that I previously learned and used while working in nonprofit housing, I aim to help educate and build relationships with people about their dogs needs. Unlike a lot of local walkers, we are breed inclusive and understand that people are products of their situations and context. Dog Grrl was started in 1997 by owner and operator Jenny Test. Dog Grrl thrived and grew into a doggie daycare space in San Francisco that offered small dog daycare, puppy socials with classes with Smarty Pup and a BnB style boarding facility in Healdsburg California. As the business grew so did the desire to help dogs overcome their fears and anxieties so Jenny went to the Academy for Dog Trainers offered at the SPCA and taught by Jean Donaldson. I grew up living with and loving dogs. When my kids were young I hired dog walkers and was always curious about the job. In 2013, we got our dog Lily and I became and licensed dog walker and started A Walk in the Park. Since then I've done group walks at Fort Funston, Bernal Hill, Stern Grove and McLaren Park. I also do doggie daycare and boarding in my home in Noe Valley. I love spending my days outside with dogs and feel very grateful to do this work.
