I believe in providing choice and agency to dogs and empowering dog guardians to better understand their companions. I don't use or teach compulsion or punishment. The goal is always for dogs and humans to live happily together!

Dog Grrl was started in 1997 by owner and operator Jenny Test. Dog Grrl thrived and grew into a doggie daycare space in San Francisco that offered small dog daycare, puppy socials with classes with Smarty Pup and a BnB style boarding facility in Healdsburg California. As the business grew so did the desire to help dogs overcome their fears and anxieties so Jenny went to the Academy for Dog Trainers offered at the SPCA and taught by Jean Donaldson. What started as a call to action and doing right by the furry friends in my life, this business was birthed from the trust and encouragement of my friends who had dogs and needed support. Fourteen years later, my team and I are ever grateful to have supported hundreds of pet owners, and made some life long friendships along the way. From Daycare support seven days a week, and Boarding overnight three hundred and sixty five a year, my passionate team is ready to support with your requested needs. I have been dog sitting & caring for pets for well over 30 years. We started our paid sitting in 2012 when our son wanted to pet sit to raise money for a school trip. I feel like our pets are more like children and are an expansion of our family. They deserve to showered with love, kindness & patience. I was raised in the country where we cared for a myriad of farm animals. I have worked with veterinarians assisting during surgery, medication administration and training. While I am not a paid professional trainer I have trained our last 3 dogs (2 Huskies and a Lab). I love the opportunity to meet new people and fur children and look forward to spending time with them throughout the day.

A Girl and Your Dog is a tightly knit team of dog savvy professionals passionate about helping you provide your dog with the best possible experience. We offer full and half day play at our ranch in Montara. We service Mission Bay, Dogpatch, Potrero, and Bernal Heights.

We are the connellys. I’m Jen. Stay at home mom and pet obsessed. My husband, Matt, is a truck driver and loves hanging out with our fur friends when he’s home. We have one 12 year old princess, our daughter, mckayla, who all of this was born from. We watch pets to help pay her competition dance fees. We all love pets and have two pups of our own. Our 4 year old goldendoodle, Mia, and our 7 year old jack russel, Toby. We have a 1/3 acre privacy fenced backyard and though our house is small, it’s filled with everything a dog could want or need. They have full run of our home and we make sure they have the best possible stay!

Let’s face it, Dogs Rule!I love dogs and love working with them. Dogs are pure joy! My goal is to give your dog the safest, most fun walk everyday with me. I strive to accomplish this and it is fun doing so. I am extremely vigilant about your dogs safety and am constantly striving towards educating myself on the best force free training methods in order to establish a loving relationship between myself and your canine companion. I train through gaining trust and build strong relationships with the dogs this way. I am not afraid to use treats and love. These are my tools. This means no shock, prong or choke chains or physical punishment. And lastly, we have sooo much fun!

I started a professional dog walking business in San Francisco, CA in the summer of 1992. I walked dogs and boarded dogs in San Francisco for 27 wonderful years. At the end of 2019, I made the decision to move out of San Francisco and move back to the East Bay, where I was born and raised. In 2020, I moved to beautiful Castro Valley and now I am boarding dogs ( small dogs only ) out of my home. I have a lovely park-like backyard, complete with its own "dog park" (synthetic lawn). I rescued a shelter dog in the middle of the pandemic. He is a 15 pound mixed breed dog named Fonzie. Fonzie gets along great with all dogs. I am licensed, bonded and insured.
