Hello, my name is Dieuwke van der Velde, I am a positive reinforcement dog trainer in San Jose, CA and owner of Orion Dog Training. I got my credentials through the Animal Behavior College where I did my internship at the Humane Society of Silicon Valley. I teach online for Sirius Puppy and recently opened a small training center in West San Jose where we offer safe socialization classes for puppies, group classes in basic obedience , puppy agility and tricks.

I am a KPA CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) and CCUI (Certified Control Unleashed Instructor). My training is centered on learner empowerment and consent. I train by playing games and creating patterns to give the dog a sense of predictability and to create a strong reinforcement history for handler interaction. I have loved animals all my life and feel a connection to dogs in particular. I have been training dogs professionally for 25 years and have been active in the rescue/shelter world for 30 years. I teach owners how to work with their dogs in a positive, fear-free environment and enhance the bond they have with their dog through consistent feedback and reinforcement. I work with dogs of all ages and breeds and have extensive knowledge with dogs that have behavioral concerns. On the flip side, I become the student when I attend workshops and seminars to learn new training methods. The field of animal behavior continues to evolve as well as our understanding of how animals learn.

Owner/Trainer Shane Stanis, CDBC, CPDT-KSA has been training dogs professionally for over 20 years. As an IAABC certified dog behavior consultant, I work primarily with families struggling with aggression, reactivity, phobias, compulsive behaviors, and my specialty - fear & anxiety. I work with clients in person in Central Contra Costa county, and virtually nationwide (and occasionally internationally). I also run an online group training program for shy and fearful dogs, Confidence Builders Academy.

I started dog sitting after noticing a gap in the market. Daycares juggling numerous clients at can’t possibly cater to each dog’s unique needs. I commit to ONE dog at a time and providing individualized, structured care. Your dog will never be subjected to yelling, yanking, or punishing. I lead with compassion and gentleness - an approach they deserve. I provide care at my residence, offering 24/7 supervision for SA pups, exercise, and frequent photo updates.
