I have been a professional dog trainer in NYC for 15 years. As a child, I participated in dog agility and showmanship through 4-H and won several local and state competitions. I began my path to become a trainer by receiving a certification from the vocational school, Animal Behavioral College. When I began to hit a wall in my self-education four years ago, I enrolled in CUNY's Psychology program, and will be graduating May, 2025 with honors with an interdisciplinary BA in Animal Psychology and Creative Writing. I am currently volunteering as a Research Assistant for the Center for Canine Behavioral Studies, as well as assisting in a lab at Hunter studying Pandas. I am also a PPG member.

The Life of Kai is a 501-c3. Our vision is to have fewer displaced dogs in the shelters and more pets in the homes. We hope to reach our goal through several programs. Humane education teaches empathy to build a kinder and compassionate generation. Training and dog behavior books based on science are available to the public with free and easy access. Coaching new adopters and guardians and teaching pet dogs to co-exist through better understanding of canine behaviors. Working pro-bono with rescues and fosters to make rescued dogs more adoptable and supporting a foster-centric community by creating a foster registry.

I have been working with dogs since 2016. In 2017 I started a dog walking and pet sitting business and my passion to help families with their fearful and aggressive dogs grew. In 2018 I attended Karen Pryor Academy for Professional Behavior and Training graduating with distinction. My personal dogs have had training challenges that allows me to be empathetic and help personalize my training plans for my clients. I continue to study, take classes, and collaborate with fellow trainers to make sure my clients get specialized training plans to suit their unique needs.

Steph trains everyone to meet dogs where they are! She utilizes force free techniques, whether dogs need a little extra help feeling safe, learning how to play with other dogs, learning how to trust people, or just plain making sure they get their exercise while they are out and about (and coming back when called!) She strives to help people learn how to understand their dog while cutting down on undesirable behaviors. Steph has a particular soft spot for all guard dog breeds, from shepherds to bullies, and especially enjoys working with them. I am a KPA CTP (Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner) and CCUI (Certified Control Unleashed Instructor). My training is centered on learner empowerment and consent. I train by playing games and creating patterns to give the dog a sense of predictability and to create a strong reinforcement history for handler interaction.
